KTV-55-2 — THE PUSH-PULL OF KIEV

Maturity (1970-1979)
Routes 23, 30

[ Youth 1, 2 | Maturity 3, 4, 5 | Decline 6, 7, 8, 9 ] [ Kiev Cars ]

  23. Dvorets Sporta - Svyatoshino

Route 23, with loops at both ends, did not need double-ended cars; therefore, what's seen here is an exception, not a rule, rendering the picture quite rare. The inbound car is at Zhilyanskaya St. near Ploschad Pobedy.

  30. Vokzal - Pecherskiy Most

Tram #30 was the first city item that many guests as well as Kievans returning home would encounter upon arriving by train. Here it is on the western side of the Vokzal (railway station) loop - which does not exist any more...

... and on the eastern side on the same loop, during boarding. In the background is a trolleybus on route 2 or 10, in one of the old liveries.

2034 rolls away from the station, down Kominterna, towards Zhilyanskaya...

... and further along the line, 2015 goes up Kominterna to Saksaganskogo. Behind the trolleybus in the background is an MTV-82 on route 9, going towards Podol. Once again, note the virtual absence of cars.
[Hans Oerlemans, 10.09.1978]
The first stop after Vokzal, at the corner of Saksaganskogo and Tolstogo. Visible in the foreground are tracks of route 8 along Tolstogo as well as a track connecting the two lines, which was not used in revenue service at that time.

The same intersection; the 30 goes towards Vokzal, encountered by an MTV on route 9 or 10 and a train of Tatras on route 1. Nowadays, all there is in this intersection is a single-track service line, whose days are apparently numbered...

Dvorets Sporta (Sports Palace): this was the last stop for route 1 but an intermediate stop for the 30. The subsequent run included three right-angle turns and led trams into...

... the Mechnikov St. line (the next stop is Bulvar Lesi Ukrainki). These cars go in the opposite direction - the "thirty" towards Vokzal, the two-car set on the 27 - to its Dvorets Sporta terminus.

Ulitsa Yanvarskogo Vosstaniya, near Ploschad Slavy (Glory Square), inbound. The city is decorated for the May 1st holiday.

Ploschad Slavy. One of the first "push-pulls", 2005, turns into Ul. Suvorova. From here, the tracks led through Ul. Kutuzova towards Ploschad Lesi Ukrainki, and then along the boulevard of the same name towards Pecherskiy Most. Nothing was spared by the spirit of destruction...
